LI : To Making Sense Of Unfamilar Text
For this task our main focus this week was learning and exploring about the shearers strike. Our group looked at the two perspectives of the shearers strike. When we read both of them we formed an opinion of which we thought was a better argument than the other. our main focus this week was learning and exploring about the shearers strike. What I found interesting in this text was the type of words, they held against the labourers.
LI: To understand poetry can transform everyday life into something meaningful. Poets use various techniques to make this happen, creating specific feelings and moods for the reader.
For reading we had been tasked to create a mood board, that describes the vibe that the poem ‘ Child coming home in the rain,’ written by Hone Tuwhare, a Maori poet that had created many famous poems. We found images online or we had generated them using Adobe Express, and then put them in a collage kind of format.We enjoyed this collaboration with each other.
For our reading we were tasked a challenge of recording ourselves recite a poem, and specifically one of Hone Tuwhare’s famous poems, called ‘ Rain ‘. We first listened to Hone Tuwhare himself, reading his masterpeice, then we had to try imitate the way he said it, but not fully copying the way he said it. I found that this challenge was really enjoyable !
For this task we were challenged to create a dinosaur made out of black paper,scissors, gluestick, paper and a ruler. during this task we had to write our instructions while creating our practice dinosaur which we used Red paper so we knew which one was our practice and our model, after creating our practice dinosaur and we wrote our Instructions we were challenged to create a model dinosaur out of black paper using the instructions we wrote to create our red dinosaur. I enjoyed this task because we learnt how to create a dinosaur only using black/red paper, scissors, gluestick, paper and a ruler without any instructions, we used our brains to create and write our instructions and our model ( dinosaur ).
Today LS1 gave some of the people in ls2 a chance, to create a quirky and creative Alien, with all having to be a family friendly. My alien is a bacteria organism ,that was made by humans from 2030 after leaving there rubbish on mars, because someone had accidently dropped one of them, and after 500 years it became alive. She travelled the planet meeting others like hickiepickiewickie, and hickiepickiewickie reckons that she reminds him of pumpkin spice latte, therefore giving her name as ” Pumpkin Spice Latte “.
LI: To identify the main arguments Malala presents for education and peace.
For this task we have been handed in the challenge of making a poster on one of Malala Yousafzai’s key messages in her speech, when she made when she turnt 16 years of age. She was a protester that fought for women’s justice to have the opportunity to be educated, and she also mentions is her speech the Taliban and the things in humanity that make it bad ! This included poverty, racism, social injustice, racial bias, gender bias and much more. She called upon the many leaders to change their political view, and thanking the people who were praying for her, and the ones that helped her recover from when she had got shot on the left side of her face. What I found interesting is that she didn’t let anything define her on what she is and didn’t let anyone put her down !
LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.
For Inquiry, we were challenge to create a presentation about our dinosaurus which was a Ankylosaurus. Before we did this challenge, we made by hand a dinosaur egg. When we opened it we discovered an Ankylosaurus, we gathered facts about our dinosaurus and used our knowledge to put on our slide. In our presentation we included predators, appearance, protection, habitat and their diet. Something we enjoyed about this challenge was we get to participate in this inquiry and we get to learn about the history of dinosaurs.
For the celebration of TLW ( Tongan Language Week ) in maths, we created a presentation with our own creative word problems for our group to figure out, we used many arithmetic equations including time, length, kilometers, and all the other basic equations such as ; addition, multiplication, subtraction, division. We also needed to contribute Tongan related things, like items or people. I enjoyed this task because we had the opportunity of learning new things about Tonga !
For inquiry we had been researching about our chosen dinosaurs on what they look like, what their habitat was, what they ate, who their predators were, and how they protected themselves from those conniving predators. The dinosaur that I had been randomly given from an egg was an Ankylosaurus which was a friendly herbivore, who ate shrubs and lived near water sources, and in upland formations, but in this particular experiment to show our creative thinking skills we were handed in the challenge of creating an image of our dinosaur without typing its name in its prompt, the we had to get on to making our own AI movie ( 6 second ) about our dinosaurs, using the program https://hailuoai.video . I enjoyed this challenge because I had to make loads of test prompts trying to make it an Ankylosaurus, and most of them were funny results !
For our inquiry we had the topic of Volcanoes so went to the museum to put our topic to an end. When we went to the museum we had a space for learning and in that learning space we were having a reminder on what volcanoes worked like, we then had been challenged to organise the type of rock from the volcano in order, then we did a Backpack challenge where we had to pack all the necessary items into the bag within 30 seconds. The items were backpack toys can of food hole punch torch can opener pan gloves cat muesli bar cat food goggles bottle of water tea towel first aid kit mask and a colouring book .My group shoved everything but the cat because we ‘ forgot ‘ the cat and decided to take the cat food. Even we were walking around the different galleries going from WW2 to imaginarium, weird and wonderful and lastly NZ protests and politics, we were learning different things, and a fact that I found interesting was that whenever someone would spot an enemy, there would be a flagman giving a signal to the bell person, which then would ring the bell above to warn them ! What I learnt from the class time was that whenever there were volcanic bombs it was basically these big chunks of lava, ejecting in a high altitude and then coming down at great speed, twirling whilst its cooling down !
